Purpose of the Job:
As a General Worker at Transnet, you will assist the RME Construction team with maintenance and construction activities. Your role is crucial in ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently, supporting the overall operation and workflow of the project.
Key Responsibilities for General Workers
- Assist with all duties as directed by the Supervisor or Team Leader.
- Maintain punctuality and a professional attitude at all times.
- Load and offload materials safely and efficiently.
- Clean work sites by removing debris, weeds, and unnecessary materials.
- Perform sweeping and general site cleanup duties.
- Handle and use hand tools in the construction environment.
- Clean and maintain tools after use.
Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies Required
To qualify for the General Worker position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Requirement: Minimum of Grade 9 or at least 6 months of relevant experience.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to pass a medical examination.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Safety Awareness: Must be safety-conscious and alert at all times.
- Adaptability: Willingness to work under different weather conditions and in confined spaces or at heights.
- Flexibility: Prepared to work extended hours on short notice and ready to relocate or work outside the designated depot if necessary.
- Noise Tolerance: Capable of working in a noisy environment.
